My computer seems to have shit the bed.. does anyone has anyone built a new system lately? Recommendations?

I think my Motherboard has failed, so if I can't find a direct replacement then I'll probably buy new board/cpu/memory..

A quick look at Toms pointed me to this board..

I wonder if I can just install that sucker with all of my current bits and get back up and running? I should probably pull the trigger on a new cpu too.. my old Pentium D 805 is probably half the speed of the current picks.

I just built a new system- this is board I went with (kind of have a thing for Asus)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131299

paired with

and
8gig of

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227406

I couldn't justify the price of a Quad Core at the time, had a budget to stick to or the wife would have skinned me alive.

My system is a P4 3.0Ghz with "Hyper-Mother-Fuc*ing-Threading-Bitch*s". My graphics port is accelerated!

Somebody has to ask: You are sure this is a mobo problem, not a PSU?
I have built some nice systems because of extra motherboards I acquired that way.
That said, that looks like a nice mobo - i don't have any P43 systems but I have a P35.

I have an 8800GT for you if you need it, also an extra PSU, a case - basically nothing you need.
Those wolfdale Intel chips are wicked cheap right now, but you can even get a quad core chip for well under 200$

I took it out to a buddy of mine that runs a small computer shop in Bixby, he had a PSU tester and a "POST card" basically a little PCI card that shoots out all sorts of diagnostics data.

PSU was fine, perfect power on all the leads, Mobo on the other hand didn't report anything, nothing, nada! like nothing at all showed up, not just no errors.

Everything was pointing to a bad mobo, or possibly even a bad cpu, so we unplugged everything thinking I was going to replace it.. He noticed that the LED lights went out nearly instantaneously when you killed the power to the box, normally they sort of fade out over a few seconds. So he thought something was "stuck on" that was draining the board faster than normal. so after we removed the CMOS battery for a bit it fired right up.. I don't have any idea what the problem was, and I still think my board is on the way out, but for the time being I'm back up and running.

It sure was nice to have access to a few hardware troubleshooting tools!
